This 15 Days itinerary offers the best of what this charming state has to offer, from the ever-impressive 21st-century metropolis of Taipei to the untouched village life throughout the countryside that has seldom seen change over the years. Start your adventure with two days in the capital, before making your way to the island's historical city of Taichung. You'll then leave modern civilisation behind as you head along a hundred-year-old train route in Alishan, before cruising over postcard-perfect Sun Moon Lake, and finally exploring the stunning national parks of Taroko. This itinerary is an example. It’s designed to inspire you and provide you with thoughtfully curated ideas. You can choose to do this exact itinerary or completely personalize it. Upon arrival, you will be met and greeted at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and transferred to the hotel. Stay two nights in Taipei.
After breakfast, enjoy a city sightseeing tour of Taipei. Start with historical landmarks such as the Grand Hotel Taipei and National Palace Museum down to the classical Dadaocheng and Dihua Old Street. Later, visit Chiang Kai-shek Memorial, Cheng-en Gate, Longshan Temple for its old charm and Ximending Commercial District and Taipei 101 Observatory for a modern experience.
After breakfast travel to Taichung, En-route stop and visit Bei Pu, the Hakka Village, see the houses and streets, learn to make “Lei-Cha” and taste such Hakkanese people’s traditional delicacy. Then, proceed to San Yi to see wood carvings and visit Wood Sculpture Museum. Afterwards, proceed to Taichung, Taste “Bubble Milk Tea with Pearls” at Chun-Shui-Tang in Taichung. Evening visit Taichung’s Feng Jia Night Market and stay overnight in Taichung.
After breakfast travel to Sun Moon Lake, En-route visit Lukang Old Street and visit Folk Arts Museum. Explore traditional houses with carved doorways and windows, intricately designed arches over the main entrance, thin red brick walls and red-tiled road, as well as retro green mailboxes hanging outside the houses boasting an antique charm. Continue travel and stay two nights in Sun Moon Lake.
Take Sun Moon Lake Ropeway across the hills to visit Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village to learn about the lifestyle of Taiwan’s different aboriginal tribes and enjoy the aboriginal people’s songs and dance performances. Afternoon, visit a private tea farm to see tea plantations and learn about the way to make tea and have a tea tasting.
A drive from Sun Moon Lake toward Central Mountains via Yushan National Park and reach Tatachia (2,610 meters) for a panoramic view. Then continue to Alishan Forest Park and enjoy a walk through Plum Garden, cypress forest, Sisters Pond, etc. Stay overnight in Alishan
Wake up very early in the morning and take the alpine train to Chu-Shan to witness the sunrise. Then travel to Tainan and take a boat ride in the Taijiang National Park to visit Sicao Wetlands, learn about the ecology and nature of wetlands. Stay two nights in Tainan.
After breakfast visit Ten Drum Culture Village to experience the drum playing and discover the arts of Taiwanese local drum performance. Afternoon visit Anping Fort, Tree House and the old building of the TAIT.
Travel to Kaosiung, en-route visit the Former British Consulate built on top of a hill overlooking the Kaohsiung harbour, then to the old city wall of Tsoying, Dragon & Tiger Pagodas, Spring & Autumn Pavilions. Afternoon take a walk take a walk along the Love River, visit Liuhe Night Market. Stay overnight in Kaohsiung.
Today travel to Kenting National Park, visit Maopitou to find a rock along the coast resembling a kitty, Sail Rock, Oluanpi Light House, Long-Pan Park for a panoramic view of the coastline, the Pacific Ocean and Hengchun. Stay two nights in Kenting.
Enjoy your leisurely breakfast as the day is free for your activities. Rest and relax at the pool or beach and evening explore the Night Market.
After breakfast travel to Taitung via the south link highway to the southeast coast of Taiwan. En-route visit the Bunun and it’s a community that is trying to rebuild its aboriginal culture, tea farms and rice fields. Stay overnight at Chih-Pen.
After breakfast, visit Tunnel of Nine Turns, Marble Bridge, Swallow Grotto, Eternal Spring Shrine, Taroko Gorge Gateway and Shakadang Trails. Later travel to Taipei via Suhua Highway and en route stop at Qingshui Cliff for a magnificent view of the Pacific cliffs. Stay overnight in Taipei.
After breakfast tour finishes with a direct transfer to the Taipei airport.
