The Irrawaddy River has shaped Burma’s history; it’s the country’s economic lifeblood and inseparable from Burmese spiritual life. Sailing through the heart of ‘Middle Myanmar’ cruise past a varying landscape – from the lush teak plantations around Prome to the desert country south of Pagan.

DAY 1

Early morning meet at the Sule Shangri-La hotel and transfer to Prome. Afternoon explore Prome and Thayekhittaya.

DAY 2

Enjoy a Tuk-Tuk ride to visit the charming town and its local market.

DAY 3

Venture out into the district’s capital city of Magwe on Trishaws. Take a short walk to the local market and Mya Tha Lun pagoda.

DAY 4

Today we walk ashore at Salay, a small town founded in the 13th century to see the Bagan-era shrines, beautiful 19th-century teak monasteries and preserved British colonial buildings.

DAY 5

This morning enjoy a tour of Bagan and visit Htilominlo. Take a short ride on traditional, ceremonial oxcarts through the temples of Bagan. Afternoon, enjoy visiting a local workshop that creates lacquerware, visit Gubyaukgyi Temple and proceed to the Bagan viewing hill to witness the sunset over the pagodas.

DAY 6

Morning, explore the open market and later visit Shwezigon Pagoda. Afternoon, enjoy a leisurely walk and explore Hnaw Kone, a typical, rural river village.

DAY 7

Enjoy a leisurely walk through the historical village where a peace treaty was signed in 1826. Witness the making and firing of Yandabo pottery, famous throughout Myanmar.

DAY 8

This morning we will explore the town of Ava by horsecart, visiting the beautiful 200-year-old teak Bagaya Kyaung Monastery and Nanmyin watchtower, and witnessing life in a local nunnery. Afternoon visit U-Bein Bridge believed to be the world’s longest and oldest teakwood bridge.

DAY 9

Enjoy a leisurely walking tour of the small town of Mingun, famous for its makeshift galleries and Mingun Bell. Afternoon visit and explore Mandalay.

DAY 10

Disembark after breakfast as the tour finishes with direct transfer to the Mandalay airport.
